MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground, using techniques from various combat sports and martial arts. During the early 20th century, various mixed-style contests took place throughout JapanTaiwan, and other countries. In Brazil, there was the sport of Vale Tudo, in which fighters from various styles fought with little to no rules. The Gracie family was known to promote Vale Tudo matches as a way to promote their own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu style. Modern day MMA is one of the fastest growing sports on earth and has been popularised through events like the UFC - showcasing the worlds best MMA Superstars.

At Impact Gym we offer Mixed Martial Arts coaching from the complete Novice to the Professional Athlete. We have a comprehensive program teaching the fundamentals of the sport as well as cutting edge techniques and tactics battle tested in the Cage. We have a stable competitive fighters from Amateur to Pro holding both British and European Titles on shows such as Cage Warriors.

WRESTLING

Wrestling represents one of the oldest forms of combat. The origins of wrestling go back 15,000 years through cave drawings. Babylonian and Egyptian reliefs show wrestlers using most of the holds known in the present-day sport. Literary references to it occur as early as the Old Testament and the ancient Indian Vedas. In the Book of Genesis, the Patriarch Jacob is said to have wrestled with God or an angel. The Iliad, in which Homer recounts the Trojan War of the 13th or 12th century BC, also contains mentions of wrestling. Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata contain references to martial arts including wrestling. In ancient Greece wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and literature; wrestling competition, brutal in many aspects, served as the focal sport of the ancient Olympic Games

Impact Gym offers wrestling specifically adapted for the MMA and Submission Grappling arena - delivered by coaches competing in these spheres. We look to combine both the physical and technical in our classes to create a ruthlessly effective system.

STRIKING

Striking Arts perhaps may be some of the most recognisable and prominent combat styles on Earth. Some of the main examples of these are Western Boxing, Thai Boxing, Kickboxing and Karate to name but a few. Striking in competitive arenas usually incorporates the use of the feet, hands, knees and elbows (occasionally the head.) and is s significant aspect of MMA.

At Impact Gym we primarily teach striking for MMA, our system fuses the best of many striking combat sports to deliver an effective and dynamic striking style. Alongside our MMA athletes we also have both amateur boxing and K1 competitors and practitioners - whatever your pathway we deliver a gold standard of coaching.
